“Your power begins
where your story ends
and your truth begins.”
Glenn S. Cohen
For years, I didn’t realize I was stuck in patterns that drained me, stories I told myself that made me the victim of my own life. I blamed. I defended. I stayed small. And like an old pair of shoes that didn’t fit anymore, those patterns were familiar… but painful.
Then I learned that empowerment is a choice. Not once. Not just in theory. But daily. Moment by moment. Empowerment is living at cause, taking ownership of my inner world, my thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and stories. It's seeing myself as a participant with personal power, not a puppet at the mercy of life’s strings.
My metaphor of the garden woke me up. Imagine two plots. On the left: the old garden, full of disempowered weeds, stories like, “If only they would change…” On the right: rich new soil. Seeds of now, gratitude, giving, forgiveness, and faith waiting to grow. It’s all about where I shine my light and what I choose to water.
At first, it felt uncomfortable, repeating those five words like a mantra, wearing a yellow bracelet as a reminder. But slowly, those seeds rooted. My inner climate changed. I noticed my language, the subtle self-sabotage, the red stories. I started reprogramming them to green.
This journey isn’t about perfection. It’s about awareness. It's about asking: Am I arguing for my limitations or planting something new? It's about feeling triggered and instead of blaming, turning inward with honesty, vulnerability, and curiosity.
Empowerment doesn’t shout. It whispers, “You can choose again.” And each time I do, I reclaim a part of myself I’d unknowingly abandoned.
Empowerment is like switching from watering weeds in a familiar, overgrown garden to planting a brand-new field where joy, love and freedom can finally bloom. So, what story are you willing to stop watering today so you can finally grow something new?
